5 Common AC Problems and How to Address Them

Central air conditioning can be a lifesaver during our South Jersey summers, but only when it’s working correctly! There are many issues that can affect the performance of your AC, leading to inefficient operation, higher electricity bills, and an uncomfortable home for your family.

Some AC problems are simple enough that you can fix them yourself. But when you need reliable AC repair and other HVAC services you can trust, call Bovio Rubino Service. Here are some of the issues that we see often in homes throughout Southern New Jersey, including Sicklerville, Cherry Hill, and Vineland.

AC Problem #1: Clogged Air Filters

Signs Your Air Filters Are Clogged

  • Reduced airflow from vents
  • More dust accumulation in your home
  • Increased energy bills

Cleaning or replacing your air filters regularly is essential to maintaining a high-functioning HVAC system. This is a relatively simple task that any homeowner can do, but it’s also a part of Bovio Rubino Service’s AC maintenance services.

AC Problem #2: Thermostat Issues

Signs There’s a Problem with Your Thermostat

  • Incorrect temperature readings
  • Unresponsive controls or display
  • Inconsistent cooling throughout your home

When it comes to problems with your thermostat, it’s always best to check the obvious first: ensuring your thermostat has a reliable power source or that the batteries haven’t died. If the problem persists, call a professional for thermostat services.

AC Problem #3: Refrigerant Leaks

Signs You Have a Refrigerant Leak

  • Your AC cycles (turns on and off) for longer than usual
  • You can hear hissing or bubbling sounds near the AC unit
  • The air in your home is more humid than normal

Refrigerant leaks pose not only a risk to your HVAC system but to your health as well. If you suspect your AC is leaking refrigerant, call Bovio Rubino Service right away.

AC Problem #4: Faulty Fan Motor

Signs There’s an Issue with Your AC Fan Motor

  • Poor airflow from your vents
  • Grinding, screeching, or rattling sounds from your outside AC unit
  • Your AC fails to start

Fan motor problems can be the result of electrical problems, dust accumulation, and more. A qualified, NATE-certified AC technician can get to the bottom of the issue quickly.

AC Problem #5: Compressor Failure

Signs There’s an Issue with Your AC Compressor

  • Warm air coming out of your vents
  • Leaking refrigerant
  • High energy bills

There are many indications that your AC compressor is starting to fail. If you catch the issue early enough, you can avoid a complete breakdown that leaves you without cool air in the middle of a South Jersey summer heatwave. The compressor is just one of the many parts of Bovio Rubino Service’s AC service checklist.

Applications for the 2026 Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference are Live

South Jersey Rising Junior and Senior High School Young Women are Encouraged to Apply

Voorhees, New Jersey – April 1, 2026 – Young women going into their junior and senior years of high school who are thinking about their futures are encouraged to apply to attend the 2026 Bovio Rubino Service Young Women’s Leadership Conference on Wednesday, July 15 in Voorhees.

The application to attend the Young Women’s Leadership Conference is now live and available through Friday, May 1 by midnight. The Conference is part of “LeadHERship in ’26,” this year’s Bovio Rubino Service community cause which “seeks to advance the opportunities of young women through career readiness, entrepreneurship, community betterment and a personal health and wellness mindset.”

Speakers, workshops and discussions are part of the one-day Conference in July. The opportunity to present an original idea that betters the community after the Conference will be presented to the Conference attendees.

Investing in young women is an idea close to the heart of Bovio Rubino Service president Angela Rubino Hines, a Mom of two young women and a leader amongst very few women in the HVAC and Plumbing service industry. In 2025 Hines was named one of the country’s “Top 12 Women in HVAC” by ACHR News. While she’s humble about the success she has achieved it inspires her to encourage the next generation of women leaders.

“We look forward to investing in young women this year at our Conference, through creative programs with our team members and through partnerships with nonprofit organizations. ‘LeadHERship in ’26’ is our way of giving back and inspiring the next generation of women leaders right here in South Jersey where we live and where our customers live.”
